The Regional Directorate of Culture in Marrakech-Safi organized last Thursday a guided tour to the Badii Palace in Marrakech, for the benefit of children and young people with special needs from the Solidarity Association for the Deaf and Mute, with the aim of introducing them to the heritage and historical riches that this imperial city abounds with.

One of the objectives of the 2nd edition of the Heritage Days was to promote the social integration of people with disabilities and their participation in cultural and entertainment activities. Thus, some 31 young people and children with special needs, aged 3 to 21, participated in the various activities, specially concocted by the organizers. Accompanied by their supervisors, who interacted with them and provided explanations via sign language, these children and young people with special needs greatly appreciated this initiative, which allowed them to discover the historical components of the emblematic Badii Palace.

Sidi Haida Mohamed Ezzeddine, director of the Daoudiate Cultural Center, said that this cultural event allowed children and young people with special needs to participate in this cultural activity and to discover up close the tangible and intangible heritage, which abounds in the ocher city.

Leila Aouzal, director of the Education and Training Center of the Solidarity Association for the Deaf and Mute, welcomed this initiative of the Regional Directorate of Culture of Marrakech-Safi, which allowed this category to discover the components of the Badii Palace and to spend pleasant moments. The association, which signed a partnership with the Ministry of National Education, the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and the National Mutual Aid, works in the field of qualification and socio-professional integration of children with special needs and the creation of income-generating activities for the benefit of this category.

The guided tour organized for people with special needs received the support of Cadi Ayyad University and the “Turath” Association for the preservation of the tangible and intangible heritage of the city of Marrakech and the region. Organized as part of the celebration of the event “Marrakech, capital of culture in the Islamic world for the year 2024”, the 2nd edition of the Heritage Days aims to highlight the rich heritage of the Ochre City and its radiant ancestral architecture. On the menu: a scientific symposium and an exhibition of old photographs on the Guéliz district and guided tours of some of the city’s historical monuments for the benefit of students and the general public, such as the Bahia Palace, the Badii Palace and the Saadian Tombs.
