The Montdidier gendarmerie company, placed under the command of squadron leader Leïla Amal, the officers, celebrated yesterday, Saturday November 23, in Piennes-Onvillers, in the morning, Saint Geneviève, patron saint of gendarmes.
A mass was celebrated by Father Gilles Lherbier, military chaplain at the Saint-Martin church.
At the Piennes-Onvillers village hall, during a friendly time following mass, squadron leader Leila Amal declared, in the presence of Bertrand Demouy, departmental councilor of the canton of Moreuil, of Jean-Philippe Tanguy, deputy for the 4th constituency of the Somme, mayors and deputies, lieutenant-colonel David Poirier, second-in-command of the Somme gendarmerie group, flag bearers of patriotic associations and retirees from the Gendarmerie: “ On this festive day, we pay tribute both to our patron saint, but also to all the gendarmes, to their dedication and their professionalism. To honor Saint Genevieve is to remember. Remember that at any moment, everything can change and that, in this profession, routine can be deadly; Remember his comrades, who gave their lives to protect their fellow citizens and to maintain peace in the territory. Remember the delicate interventions, which allow a bond so special that we end up talking about “family”.
Because, above all, behind each gendarme, whatever their status, behind each uniform, there is a man or a woman, a father or a mother, a friend, a brother, a sister. »
The commander further declared: “ Demonstrating unfailing determination and commitment every day, they are there. On the Montdidier company, among the missions entrusted to them since the beginning of the year:
- – supervision of farmers’ demonstrations;
- – the sugar beet campaign and the fight against road insecurity;
- – securing the Olympic Games;
- – the restoration of order in New Caledonia for certain gendarmes of the company;
- – the fight against attacks on people, in particular domestic violence which represents a real scourge in this department, positioned in 5th place nationally;
- – prevention in schools and many other missions.
The successful completion of these missions and the protection of the territory cannot be done without a close link established with the population, with elected officials, with administrations and the various partners (associative structures, the press, justice, schools, etc. ) It is together, by collaborating, that we can build a society where security reigns and where life is good. »
