The agents of the French Waterways made a macabre discovery this Sunday, November 24, 2024. Responsible for clearing the branches accumulated at the Damery dam, they discovered a lifeless man there around 10 a.m.
As soon as they were alerted, the firefighters went to the scene. They were the ones who pulled the body out of the water. The gendarmerie was also on the scene to carry out the usual observations and in particular to try to identify the person who appeared to be around fifty years old.
No disappearances reported in the area
At the end of the morning, a forensic doctor was expected on site. Examination of the body should make it possible to determine the causes of death.
According to the Épernay gendarmerie, in charge of the investigation, no disappearances have recently been reported in the area. The current is strong in the Marne river, particularly high these days. The body could have been carried away by the current well upstream of Damery.
