“He knows me better than I know myself” says Yuna17, when she describes her boyfriend of the same age, Gwendhal. The two students of Jeanne-d’Arc high school in Pontivyin Morbihan, are going to get married…

Obviously, it is not a real wedding, but a tradition of this school, on the occasion of Saint Catherine's Day. The appointment is set for November 27, 2024.

This couple was chosen by the school to act as bride and groom during this senior year celebration day. A logic according to them: “We were told about it before the summer, while we made our decision,” says Yuna. It must be said that this duo has supported each other for a year and a half.

Gwendhal and Yuna met “like in the movies”

It's thanks to their best friend in common, Louisthat the two lovebirds meet. “He invited us to an evening where we talked a lot, about everything and nothing,” says Gwendhal. “Under the stars, like in the movies,” says his soul mate, looking at his lover with sparkling eyes.

The next day, the young man added Yuna on Instagram, but it was she who sent the first message.

We took the time to get to know each other. We were hooked to our phones all summer (2023).

And the future psychologist is pleasantly surprised by the personality of his “crush”: “I attach myself to certain details in someone to have an affinity with the person. But Yuna was not easy to pin down. And that’s what I liked about her. »

He then takes his courage in both hands and declares his love for her after a few weeks. He sends a photo to his sweetheart: he gets down on one knee, hydrangeas in hand (Yuna's favorite flowers) and asks her: do you want to be my girlfriend? A request to which his sweetheart responds favorably.

The cinema ticket from the first date kept carefully

Sending messages to each other is very nice, but the young man is motivated to see his girlfriend again. Even if it means driving for an hour and a half by bike, between Pluméliau (where he lives) and Locminé, to go see her. “He was all sweating,” the young girl remembers, laughing. And he did it four or five times to see me! »

Romantic couple made official, the first date takes place at the Rex cinema in Pontivy, “in front of Barbie” explains Gwendhal who carefully keeps the ticket in her phone case, just like Yuna.

The latter also keeps the flowers that her beloved gives her from time to time, like the white rose that he hides in a bakery during this first “date”, before giving it to her in person.

Since then, the two families have met, eager to witness this “real fake joke” as Gwendhal describes it.

A fake marriage celebrated on the occasion of Saint Catherine's Day

The two teenagers are far from being the first to carry out this type of event. For many years, Saint Catherine's Day has been celebrated in this way by the Jeanne-d'Arc high school.

The ingredients of a real wedding are present, such as the organization by a “wedding planner” who “coaches” everyone.

A meeting with a priest also takes place. “He will see our state of mind. We meet him in a chapel where he will show us a fresco of Saint Catherine and what it represents,” explains the future groom.

Even the bride has her dress!

I tried on the dress! Gwendhal wanted to see her, but I said no, you will see her like everyone else, on November 27, at 10:30 a.m.

It is at this time that a procession of disguised high school students will leave the establishment. At the head, the two lovers, surrounded by their respective witnesses: Awen and Léane, childhood friends of Gwendhal, the famous Louis and Camylle (best friend since middle school) for Yuna.

Head to the town hall, where the councilor will celebrate the fake marriage at 11 a.m. Then, return to the high school, at 11:30 a.m., where a fake religious ceremony will be led by a fake priest.

Everyone has their own way, everyone has their own studies

It is with happiness and humor that the two teenagers await this event. Their last year of high school will end with a prom, another tradition in Jeanne-d'Arc.

Then, everyone will take a different path regarding studies. Gwendhal plans to join the University of 2 to follow a course in psychology. For her part, Yuna should head to the University of South in , the University of Western Brittany in , or an engineering school.

Very early in our relationship, we said to ourselves that we wouldn't put any pressure on each other, that we'd see what happened. We will not prevent anyone from leaving, even abroad.

The objective is “not to mix studies and private life”. “We can see each other on the weekend. The moments will only be more special! » Like this November 27, where they will say yes to each other, for a day.
