After a notable stint at the Stade de Beaujoire, Moussa Sissoko could leave the club to return to England.

The former French international Moussa Sissoko is about to leave the FC Nantesdespite the club’s efforts to secure his services for a further period. Sissoko, 34, has joined the FC Nantes in the summer of 2022 for an amount of 2 million euros. He has since become an integral member of the team, making 72 appearances, including 28 last season.

Sissoko played a crucial role in helping Nantes narrowly avoid relegation last season. In the wake of their survival, manager Antoine Kombouaré expressed the need to rejuvenate the squad. Despite this general refresh, Sissoko was one of the players Kombouaré was keen to keep. However, contract extension negotiations between the two parties remained at a standstill and no agreement was reached.

Watford interested in signing Sissoko

With Sissoko now free to negotiate with other clubs, reports from The Athletic suggest Watford are interested in bringing the veteran midfielder back to Vicarage Road. Sissoko has previously played for Watford and the club are looking forward to welcoming him back this summer. The Frenchman is currently taking the time to consider his options for the future.

While Sissoko considers his future, FC Nantes will need to focus on rebuilding and identifying suitable replacements to strengthen their squad for the new season. The departure of such an experienced player will undoubtedly leave a void, but it will also offer the opportunity for new talents to emerge and establish themselves at Beaujoire.
