Belgium. Issues, referee, broadcasting… Everything you need to know about the Blues’ match at the Euro

The French football team, which finished second in Group D of Euro 2024, faces Belgium this Monday (6 p.m.) in the round of 16. After three checkered first matches, where they showed great defensive solidity but worrying offensive ineffectiveness, the Blues “start a new competition” according to Didier Deschamps. Stakes, referee, broadcast… here is everything you need to know about the match.

Wash away the insult of Euro 2021

The challenge for the French team will obviously be to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition, three years after failing in the 8th final against Switzerland on penalties.

Les Bleus have not lost a knockout match in a major competition in regulation time since 2014 and the 1-0 defeat against Germany in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Brazil. To beat Belgium, they will obviously have to maintain this solidarity and find the back of the net.

The history of France – Belgium

The recent meetings between France and Belgium in official matches have largely turned in favor of the Blues. Obviously, we all remember this semi-final of the 2018 World Cup, won by Kylian Mbappé and his teammates before the coronation.

More recently, the Belgians thought they had their revenge by leading 2-0 at half-time in the Nations League semi-final. That was without taking into account the French character since Belgium finally lost 3-2 before, once again, the Blues won the trophy.

The France-Belgium match, part of the round of 16 of Euro 2024, will kick off at 6 p.m. in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The France – Belgium match, counting for the 8th finals of Euro 2024, will be broadcast on TF1 et beIN SportsThe meeting will also be available to follow live with commentary on our website ouest-france.fr.

Swedish trio to referee

Glenn Nyberg, a 35-year-old Swedish referee, was appointed by UEFA to referee the match. He will be assisted by Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Söderqvist on the sidelines.
