Despite a 0-0 draw against Chile, Canada qualified for the quarter-finals of the Copa América on Saturday in Orlando for the first time in its history.
Moreover, it has been more than 20 years since a nation had failed to reach the knockout stage in its first participation in the Copa América.

It must be said, however, that Jesse Marsch’s men once again faced favourable circumstances. For the second time in as many games, they had numerical superiority after Gabriel Suazo received a red card in the 27th minute of play.
They had taken advantage of this against Peru to win 1-0, but this time, Chile held on to at least not concede a goal.
Thus, the Unifolié finished in second place in Group A with four points in three games. Argentina, the reigning world champion, remained perfect with nine points amassed out of a possible nine. It had won 2-0 against Canada in the opening game of the competition.
Moreover, the Canadians will meet the winners of Group B during the next stage of the tournament.
