For these 2024 legislative elections, 4,011 candidates are listed in France, an average of seven candidates per constituency. This is the lowest number since 2002. If there were 84 candidates in 2017 in Maine-et-Loire, then 62 candidates in 2022, there are now only 45 men and women standing for election to Maine-et-Loire voters this Sunday, June 30, 2024 for this first round of early legislative elections.

This involves designating the seven deputies from Maine-et-Loire, in a direct universal single-member majority ballot with two rounds per constituency. Seven different elections are being organized in the department. The 596,380 voters in Maine-et-Loire (4,907 more than in 2022) are expected at polling stations open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., except in Angers where they will close at 7 p.m.

Five to seven candidates per constituency

Seven candidates are standing before the 88,377 voters in the first constituency (Angers north). There are six of them running for the seat of deputy for the second constituency (South Angers) and will be decided by 95,429 voters.

The third constituency (Saumur north) is the one with the fewest candidates. The 72,661 registered voters will only find five different ballots in the polling stations. Seven pairs (a deputy candidate and a substitute) line up in the fourth constituency (Saumur south) to solicit the votes of the 76,042 registered.

There will also be seven of them offering their services to the 80,042 voters of the fifth constituency (Cholet). To be deputy for the 6th constituency (Angers Mauges), six other candidates are applying. It will be up to the 99,557 voters, the largest contingent in the department, to decide. Finally, seven candidates are running for the 7th constituency (Angers Segré) (the eighth withdrew on Thursday) and will have to convince 84,272 registered voters.

12.5% ​​of those registered to go to the second round

A draw was held at the prefecture on Sunday, June 16 at 6:45 p.m. Each candidate was assigned an official billboard number. The posters are thus all placed in the same order near the polling stations. The election campaign ended on Friday, June 28 at midnight. In June 2022, participation in Maine-et-Loire in the first round of the legislative elections had reached only 48.95% of voters, while 52.31% of registered voters had turned out in 2017.

To be elected in the first round, a candidate must obtain an absolute majority of the votes cast and a number of votes at least equal to a quarter of the voters registered in the constituency. In the second round, a candidate only needs to obtain a relative majority to be elected. To be able to continue in the second round, which will take place on Sunday, July 7, a candidate must obtain a number of votes at least equal to 12.5% ​​of the number of voters registered in the constituency.

Declarations of candidacy for the second round will be submitted from the proclamation of the results by the general vote census commission, Monday July 1, and until Tuesday July 2 at 6 p.m.

The results will be available on our site on Sunday June 30 and then Sunday July 7.
