According to the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), Morocco has sixteen international airports, while the other eleven countries have twenty-six.

This post on Threads, claiming that Morocco has more international airports than Senegal, Mali, Niger, Burkina, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Chad, the 2 Guineas and Cameroon united is FALSE.

The post, posted on June 25, 2024, reads: “When I see that Morocco alone has more international airports than Senegal, Mali, Niger, Burkina, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Chad, the 2 Guineas and Cameroon combined. I wonder if we are really aware of our delay? We talk too much and for nothing.” It is accompanied by a photo of an aircraft painted white, green, red on the fuselage with the inscription “Royal Air Maroc” and a green star on its wing.

PesaCheck reviewed this post and found it to be false.

A search with the keywords: “international airports in Africa” showed found this guide, posted online by Bourses-des-vols.com with this title: “Airports in Africa”.

The article shows the classification of countries in alphabetical order and includes information retained according to the standards published by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), in particular IATA codes (3 letters for airports and 2 letters for companies).

Based on the information obtained from the items listed in the previous paragraph, PesaCheck found the following: Morocco: (16 airports), Senegal (3 airports), Mali (6 airports), Niger (3 airports), Burkina Faso (4 airports), Ivory Coast (1 airport), Togo (1 airport), Benin (1 airport), Chad (1 airport), Equatorial Guinea (1 airport), Guinea Conakry (1 airport), and Cameroon (4 airports); a total of 26 airports for all other countries. This information is corroborated in this article.

As for the photo of the post being verified, the Google Lens search made it possible to find it in this article, posted online on March 9, 2020, that “royal air Maroc is relaunching its flights to China”.

PesaCheck verified a post on Threads claiming that Morocco has more international airports than Senegal, Mali, Niger, Burkina, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Chad, the 2 Guineas and Cameroon put together and found it FALSE.
