After welcoming the Olympic flame just a month ago – an event that brought together more than 15,000 people in the city’s streets – the sports department managers set about organizing the “School Olympics”; primary school sports events, in which nearly 2,800 students from 14 Istres school groups, from CP to CM2, took part.

For a week, from June 17 to 21, the children took part in these challenges in the spirit of the Games with on the program, swimming, athletics and gymnastics events but also team sports competitions, and competitions. outdoor physical activities.

Every day on the sports facilities of the CEC to those of the Davini sports plain, from the nautical stadium to the Entressen nautical base via the multi-purpose hall, the events followed one after the other for hundreds of students supervised by the sports department educators, teachers and parent volunteers.

The closing ceremony of this event brought together, at the CEC stadium, children, teachers and educators, who paraded under the colours of their schools in front of an impressive gathering of parents.

Marie-José Boudaille, bearer of the flame

After the interventions of elected officials and personalities who unanimously praised the organization of this event by the sports department, and the enthusiasm of the participants, “today our gold is you“, proudly said François Bernardini, mayor of Istres.

The children were treated to the passage of the Olympic flame by Marie-José Boudaille, one of the two Olympic torchbearers, through the streets of Istres on Sunday May 12, and to a release of doves, the same ones that were released a little over a month ago now.

Each school received a diploma and cups attesting to their participation in these second Istres School Olympiads.
