MLS: CF Montreal faces Philadelphia Union at Saputo Stadium

Pre-match

CF Montreal will reunite with its fans on Saturday for a clash against the Philadelphia Union at 7:30 p.m. at Stade Saputo.

Returning from a brief stay in the American Rockies, the Montrealers return to the charge against a direct rival from the Eastern Conference, presenting an overall record of 10-9-10 against the Union and 7-2-2 in the Saputo Stadium.

Undefeated at home since May 15 during the visit of Columbus, the Bleu-blanc-noir will try to collect points against an opponent who has signed three victories abroad this season.

Let us recall that Mathieu Choinière, Ariel Lassiter, Samuel Piette and Joel Waterman remain unavailable for selection due to their call-ups to the national teams with Canada and Costa Rica at the 2024 Copa América.

However, striker Jules-Anthony Vilsaint returned to action last Saturday, playing 20 minutes against the Rapids. Head coach Laurent Courtois will also be able to turn to defender Joaquín Sosa who was serving a one-match suspension last Saturday due to accumulation of yellow cards.

The Union, 11th in the Eastern standings, is looking for its first win since May 18, having gone 0-3-3 with a minus-4 goal differential since then. It is worth noting that Daniel Gazdag, the Union’s main offensive weapon, will be unavailable for the visitors following his call-up to Hungary for Euro 2024. The forward has 10 goals and one assist in 15 games. The Union’s second-leading scorers are Julian Carranza and Mikael Uhre with six goals each.

In terms of personal records, defender Gabriele Corbo’s next start will be his 50th in MLS.

Additionally, Lassi Lappalainen is set to play his 95th game, which would tie him for 10th among players with the club’s most games in MLS.
