Dakar, July 2 (APS) – A meeting of ministers responsible for land use planning and border management issues in UEMOA member states will be held in Dakar on Thursday, July 4, we learned from the regional organization.

The opening ceremony of this meeting will take place from 9 a.m. in a hotel in the Senegalese capital.

“During their work, the ministers will examine the draft document of the integrated cross-border development plan” of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, specifies the communications department of the regional organization.

“They will decide on [le schéma en question] and its action plan,” she added in a press release.

The ministerial meeting was preceded by that of the experts, which has been held since Monday, July 1, for a duration of three days.

“As a reminder, as part of the support for the Network of Mayors of the Senegal River Basin, the development of an integrated cross-border development plan is planned, in order to better structure the vision, objectives and priority actions of the umbrella organization in the short, medium and long term,” explains the communications department of the UEMOA Commission.

“The process of developing this [schéma] officially launched on November 27, 2021 in Bakel, Senegal, favored a participatory approach through consultations with all local stakeholders in the border areas concerned,” she adds.

The same source states that “this process resulted in the drafting of a new version of the draft documents [du schéma] and its action plan”.
