Be careful on the roads of the South Channel, this Friday, November 22. Many traffic routes remain difficult to access, or even impassable, following new snowfall recorded early this morning.
The A 84 still blocked
The situation on the A 84 has changed little since yesterday. The axis is still closed to traffic between Avranches and Gouvets, in the Rennes – Caen direction. Motorists must always exit at Ponts and take the departmental roads. This section has been lowered to orange alert for vehicles traveling in the Caen – Rennes direction.
This morning, Bison Futé has placed the portion of the highway between Poilley and Saint-James in orange, because of the risk of icy conditions. Traffic returned to normal early in the afternoon. The situation is identical on the N 175 between Avranches and Pontorson.
Heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes remain prohibited from driving this Friday on the motorways. The Manche national police have indicated a reopening of the secondary network for these vehicles since 1:30 p.m.
20 cm of snow in Mortainais
Nearly 20 cm of snow fell early this morning in Mortainais, according to information from the Department. The roads have been classified red throughout the sector, in Mortain, Juvigny-le-Tertre, Barenton, Sourdeval or Le Teilleul. The towns of Saint-Pois and Les Loges-Marchis were also difficult to access.
At 2 p.m., no roads in the South Channel are classified red. Difficulties remain in Mortain, Ger, Chérencé-le-Roussel, Barenton, Sourdeval and Juvigny-le-Tertre. The Department deployed reinforcements to clear the roads. The situation has improved somewhat on the Brécey side. The D 999 towards Villedieu-les-Poêles and the D 911 towards Avranches are lowered to orange alert by the department's services. The sectors of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, Saint-James and Avranches have returned to normal.
The Sartilly – Granville axis reopens to traffic
The D 673 between Sartilly-Baie-Bocage and Granville was closed to traffic at 7 a.m. following a heavy snow shower which blocked several trucks. The road was reopened late in the morning by the department's services. Traffic has been flowing smoothly since the beginning of the afternoon.
End of orange vigilance
The orange snow-ice alert ended at 12 p.m. in the Channel. Yellow vigilance lasts until 2 p.m., before resuming at 8 p.m. Two other yellow warnings for wind and thunderstorms must last until 3 p.m.
