Pyrénées-Orientales: collection of old photos on the Canigó massif

The inhabitants of Conflent and Vallespir are invited to participate in the landscape photographic observatory set up by the Canigó grand site joint union.

“Do you have old photos or old postcards of our territory? The Canigó grand site is launching a major collection as part of its Landscape Photographic Observatory. These precious documents will make it possible to trace the evolution of our landscapes and enrich the collective memory.” A Landscape Photographic Observatory (OPP) is a tool that makes it possible to monitor the evolution of landscapes over time through series of photographs taken from fixed points of view and according to rigorous protocols. Its challenges are multiple: it makes it possible to study the transformations of territories under the effect of human activities (urbanization, agriculture, infrastructure) and natural phenomena (erosion, climate change). These observations are valuable for raising public awareness, informing decision-makers, and guiding landscape planning and preservation policies. By promoting a visual and temporal approach, an OPP contributes to a better understanding of landscape dynamics and the implementation of sustainable approaches.

Send or drop off your photos and postcards directly to SMCGS (73 av. Guy Malé, 66500 Prades or to Charlotte Besombes – [email protected]). A contribution agreement will be signed between the two parties. Sector meetings are also planned for 1is quarter 2025 to share your treasures.
