Living environment, waste: students mobilized

At the end of the school year, middle school and primary school students from Chemin-Bas d’Avignon switched to sustainable development mode. For a week, actions were carried out with the aim of raising awareness among young people about preserving the living environment, waste management, but also attracting the attention of adults. Example among others: armed with bags, gloves and tongs, participants went through the neighborhood to collect waste.

The highlight of the week was an event day organized on Thursday. A variety of workshops were offered to CM1-CM2 and 6th grade students: responsible cooking, sustainable development goals escape game, introduction to composting, construction of birdhouses, outdoor games, exhibition… Finally, this week is concluded with several performances of the piece “Don’t touch my planet “by the troupe Le théâtre du Praticable”, which captivated more than 500 students. Through humor and emotion, they transmitted strong messages about the need to protect the environment.

In short, an event which, in the opinion of all the adults present, was met with “A great success”. The neighborhood’s route for garbage collection each year is based on an initiative by Dolores Roca, former town hall delegate. It is happily taken up again, because the cleanliness of a neighborhood is a constant struggle, never perfectly achieved.
