The Brussels MR quickly reacted to the communication from its future majority partner, the PS.Following the latest positions taken by the Brussels PS through its regional president, we stress the importance of being at the table to discuss”, communicated the MR this afternoon. “We would also like to recall having clearly indicated during the campaign never to govern with the extreme left or the extreme right. We confirm this position to the PS, explaining that we will under no circumstances receive the PTB.”
Le MR attend “on the part of the PS, while respecting the electoral results, to demonstrate its real desire to respond to Brussels emergencies. Any other attitude would be dilatory. We will therefore organize in the coming hours a meeting of the only coalition arithmetically possible at this stage on the French-speaking side with the aim of establishing an ambitious government agreement that responds to the concerns expressed by Brussels voters. It is up to everyone to assume their responsibilities in the interest of the people of Brussels.” With this new invitation, the MR wishes to get to the heart of the matter and debate concrete proposals with its socialist partner.
Earlier in the day, the PS had considered, on leaving its political office, that“in the absence of programmatic guidelines on priorities and a precise budgetary trajectory, the elements provided do not constitute – at this stage – a working basis for deciding on the entry into formal negotiations with a view to forming a regional government”.
In short, the PS is sending the ball back into the MR’s court, asking it, as the leading party in Brussels, to play its role as informant and produce a substantial note on the budgetary trajectory to follow in order to restore Brussels’ finances to balance and, above all, the means that the MR is proposing to activate.The Brussels PS reiterates its request to see a precise programmatic note proposed by the informants meeting the economic, social and environmental issues. A note which must be based on a clear and detailed multi-year budgetary trajectory, not resulting from an austerity regime harmful to the Brussels social body.”the Brussels socialists declared again.
