Traffic jams in the city are your daily ordeal and you can’t take it anymore. Whether you live in Paris, Nantes, Marseille or Lyon, it’s the same story: during rush hours, Cities are saturated with motorists pissed off! You have considered the electric bike, but are not very comfortable with the balance, or would not use it when it is raining or cold. An invention related to soft mobility from Belgium could change the game! Its name: Mobi-1, a vehicle that is difficult to define, which combines the advantages of the car and the bike. How is this possible? I will explain everything to you.

A cart for cycle paths

This Belgian invention is absolutely original, and could be described as a small electric car considered a bicycle. A car since it has a body, and a moped since it does not have pedals, but an electric battery. Legally, it will be a class A moped, limited to 25 km per hour and which can be driven without a license. And, so effectively, it is sized to the same dimensions as an electric cargo bike to be able to ride on cycle paths,” explain Alexander Simonone of the project managers, in an interview with the Guido website. Please note that this provision is not valid in France, a moped requires an AM license (ex BSR).

A very innovative electric vehicle

This mid-size vehicle is mainly aimed at those who travel a lot in the city. With its body, a seat, and space for storageit is more convenient than a bicycle. In addition, its small size and its classification in category A in Belgium, allow it to behave like a bicycle. Consequently, you can ride on a cycle path, carry a few small items and be protected from the elements. A final advantage? The less sporty among us will probably appreciate not having to make any physical effort to move around. We can also imagine Mobi-1 as a travel solution for people with reduced mobility, by the way.

A weight of only 70 kg

The small modular vehicle was presented in Belgium, but For the moment, it is a prototype. The inventors will still have to work on the design, accessibility and some ergonomic aspects. Finally, they will have to obtain approval so that this Mobi-1 can travel the roads of Belgium and elsewhere. In the meantime, this mini car, with a weight of 70 kg, can carry up to 150 kg. Its particularity lies in its electric jacks, allowing it to retract to park or enter tight spaces, before returning to its normal size to travel up to 40 km on a single charge.

Additionally, the final model may be equipped with a range of additional options. A cargo version is also planned, but you will have to be patient! More information on this innovative concept?
