In Vannes, the Véloce Grand Prix is still popular with riders

The gauge is limited to 120 and there will be 120 riders taking the start of the Grand Prix de Vannes, organized by the Véloce vannetais cyclisme, this Thursday, July 11 from 8 p.m. This shows that this event is quickly marked on the calendar of riders in the elite and open categories. “We are obliged to limit it for safety reasons because the course is around the port,” explains Ludovic Vaugrenard, the president of the VVC. A good fifteen riders from the organizing club will try to shine under the jersey. We are thinking in particular of the elite rider Julien Morice or Jules Vaugrenard, recently crowned Morbihan champion in junior.

Winner at the Tour de Martinique

The VVC is exported well beyond Breton and even national borders, like the Tour de Martinique contested last April by a team of juniors. The result is a double performance with the victory in the general classification of Alex Doltaire and that of the team, Gabin Richard, Julien Hinault, Evan Mahé and Augustin Le Galudec being part of the adventure. “We are reaping the fruits of our youth training policy. This season, we have a very good generation of juniors,” underlines Ludovic Vaugrenard who associates all the people who support the runners with these performances. “It’s true that we’ve been a hit since the start of the season. Without forgetting the access category where we find in particular Antoine Olivier, vice-champion of Brittany, also trained at the club. The open runners are also leading their own way.”

Record number of licensees

On the various races and in view of the convincing results, it is not uncommon for Ludovic Vaugrenard to be questioned about a possible creation of a team in the National Division but the Vannes leader wants to favor the DNA of the club and not spread himself thin. And then such a choice would imply additional financial and human commitments. He therefore prefers to concentrate on the base of the club which has 253 riders this season, a new record, which allows it to maintain its first place among Breton clubs in terms of numbers.
