“It will be extremely moving to see the Olympic flame in Meaux. It will be an unforgettable event.” Less than a month before the Olympic flame in Seine-et-Marne, Jean-François Copé, LR mayor of Meaux, is stamping with impatience. In one month, on July 26, 2024, Paris and the rest of France will host the largest global sporting event: the Olympic Games, followed by the Paralympic Games, between August and September.

Before the starting signal, the Olympic flame, as tradition dictates, crosses the host country. Seine-et-Marne will welcome this flame in several of its municipalities on Saturday, July 20, 2024 with a grand finale in Meauxat the end of the day.

Meaux, chosen as a stopover town

It was at the end of June 2023, a year ago, that the news broke. The Olympic flame will pass through Seine-et-Marne. Having left Fontainebleau, it is in Meaux that the torchbearers will complete their journey. The Bossuet city was naturally chosen, Meaux being the most populated city in the department.

The Olympic Flame will meet the people of Meld through the streets of our city. This major event of international scope is a unique opportunity for our city!

Where will the flame go in Meaux?

Which streets will the Olympic flame pass through? A few weeks ago, the Department and the City of Meaux lifted the veil. The route will five kilometers and will start from the forecourt of the Great War Museum from Pays de Meaux at exactly 6 p.m.

The Olympic flame will then join the Octroi crossroads before engaging in Aristide-Briand Street, President Salvador Allende Avenue then will arrive at quai Jacques-Prévertthird stage of the journey.

The torchbearers will then continue their journey to arrive at the Jean-Bureau bridgein front of Meaux station before heading towards the forecourt of Theater Luxembourgfifth step.

Finally the flame will take Fusiliers Street, Marshal-Foch Streetto finally arrive at Georges-Tauziet sports complexaround 7:20 p.m.

There, the cauldron will be ready to be lit, in front of hundreds of spectators, and the eyes of the whole world. “A way to promote an enclosure prized by many practitioners and allow as many people as possible to experience the magic of the Olympic Flame,” launches Paris 2024, to explain the choice of the Tauziet stadium for the arrival of the flame.

This route was proposed by the Meaux town hall. After an on-site inspection, it was validated by the Olympic committee in charge of organizing the Olympic Games and the torch route. “In the specifications, it was necessary in particular that the proposed lanes respect a certain width in order to allow the circulation of police vehicles, advertising vehicles and active bubbles surrounding each torchbearer,” explains the City of Meaux.

In total, 25 relay runnersselected by the Meaux town hall, the Department, and the Olympic partners, will pass through Meaux, including: Jocelyne Busson (Meaux), Julie Lenglet (Meaux), Ramy Aggoun (Meaux), Benoît Maxin (Meaux), Christophe Porlolan (Caisse d’Épargne Ile-de-France), Linda Benattar (selected by Caisse d’Épargne Ile-de-France), Jordane Saget (selected by Caisse d’Épargne nationale), Fabien Portet (BRED Banque Populaire)

The Île-de-France Region has also selected celebrities to carry the flame such as Sylvie Tellier and Patrick Bruel. Will they be in Meaux for this big Seine-et-Marne festival? Nothing is confirmed at this time. One thing is certain, “many personalities” will be present, says the Department, which wishes to keep the mystery.

Entertainment throughout the course

Everyone will participate in the fervor around the Olympic flame on July 20. The inhabitants of the territory, of Meaux and the rest of Seine-et-Marne are invited to encourage them and come and observe this flame coming from Greece.

To maintain a festive atmosphere, the Meaux town hall has planned entertainment throughout the course. At the Great War Museum, residents can attend a concert and have their makeup done. Music will continue to accompany the flame at the Octroi crossroads with a batucada demonstration by the Pom Pom Chann company and capoeira.

Another artistic demonstration on Quai Jacques-Prévert: the town hall plans theatrical and musical entertainment by the Fiesta hubcaps company.

On Pont Jean-Bureau, the Meldois will be able to gain height with a show of Olympic stilt walkers by the Art Evolution company. Sport will also be in the spotlight at the Luxembourg Theater with a demonstration and introduction to rollerblading, scootering and skateboarding by the Ride Event association.

Finally, on the last stage before the Tauziet stadium, quai Jacques-Prévert-Prolongé, the Meaux dance schools will offer a flash mob, accompanied in song by the pupils of the Meaux elementary schools with Olympic anthems specially created for the occasion.

The celebration area is open at the Tauziet stadium from 3:30 p.m.. “Four hours of activities are scheduled, both by the municipality of Meaux and by the Department” adds the Department of Seine-et-Marne.

Meldois will be able to attend sports demonstrations and musical shows. Several stands run by Olympic partners will be set up. We will notably find the Coca-Cola soda brand for a “musical and festive atmosphere” complete for Paris 2024. The Banque Populaire will, for its part, allow the public to experience water sports, while the Caisse d’Épargne will dedicate its stand to basketball and handball. At 6 p.m., while waiting for the flame, a show will be organized on the sports area.

Throughout the afternoon, a giant screen will allow you to follow the progress of the flame in Meaux. “A host and a DJ will also be present to put the public in the atmosphere of the Torch Relay. »

What security is there around the course?

But all this travel and these activities involve a very specific security plan.

The route will be completely closed to parking and traffic from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Meaux town hall

For security reasons, the national and municipal police forces, as well as 90 volunteerswill be mobilized along the route.

Spectators will be able to watch the arrival of the flame within the Tauziet stadium via a pedestrian route, completely freely. Those who want to access the site by car, the Sablons-Bouillants car park will be used. That of the Coliseum could also be used, with the provision of free shuttles to transport visitors to the Tauziet stadium. Bicycles and motorcycles will be able to park at the Jean-Vilar high school.

“Within a limit of 10,000 people, everyone will have free access to the Tauziet stadium between 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.,” continues the town hall.

Once the cauldron is lit, the entertainment should continue into the early evening.
