After a very hot start to the summer, strong storms could disrupt the weather conditions this weekend in Lorraine.

The four departments have been placed on orange vigilance by Météo France for the day of Saturday June 29, 2024.

We take stock of the forecasts as well as what awaits you for this weekend.

“The storms will be more violent over a large northeastern quarter of the country”

Météo France initially explained that the stormy situation in the north-east “requires a special vigilance taking into account the geographical extent and the intensity of the predicted phenomena” because “in addition to intense electrical activitythese storms can cause violent gusts of windof the hail and of heavy rainfall accumulations in a short time “.

Firstly, a “ goutte froide » currently located in the south of Spain will arrive in France this night via Landes and Poitou, according to Météo France. Then on Saturday, “a second salvo will circulate from the southwest towards the northeast of the country in the afternoon/evening”.

Consequence: “The storms will be more violent over a large northeastern quarter of the country, with the possibility of cumulative rain from 50 to 80 mm in a short time, very strong gusts of wind (locally 100 km/h or more) and the large hail », according to Météo France.

Departments more affected than others?

According to a bulletin from the Météo Lor website published Thursday June 27, certain departments should be more affected than others, notably the Moselle and the Vosges.

In terms of hail, Météo Lor expects “hailstones that could reach 4 to 7 cm in diameter with a west/east gradient (…), that is to say that the largest hailstones are to be expected towards the Moselle and the Vosges”.

In terms of rain, in the region, “in less than half an hour, it could fall up to 30 mmis around two weeks of precipitation “Here too, certain sectors of Moselle and Vosges will be the most affected in Lorraine.
