Property of the Queen of England until the 2000s, the Monticelli Pavilion has been renovated and opens its doors to the public after 16 months of work on Tuesday July 2.

A majestic place which will soon open its doors to the public. After 16 months of work, the Pavilon Monticelli, located in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille, is revealed. A prestigious building, which belonged to the Queen of England 30 years ago.

Before the day of the inauguration, the royal pavilion displays a library, which awaits its last touch of varnish, lighting which still needs to be plugged in or even plants being planted. The final preparations necessary for this place steeped in history.

“We still have to finish the fountain, install the equipment so that the work is magnificent, a little end-of-construction cleaning, and that way we will welcome the public in the best possible conditions,” confides Maxime Leporcq, Holfim technical director, to BFM Marseille Provence.

Various events throughout the year

Designed in 1882, the Monticelli Pavilion has had many owners including Elizabeth II, Queen of England. At the request of the sovereign, the place notably welcomed the staff of the English consulate during the Football World Cup in France in 1998.

Today, the building has been bought by the Holfim group. The company has taken over three rooms and three outdoor spaces of more than 1,000m2 which, for the first time, will be open to the general public.

“We have, from July 15, an event program, which will include brunches on Sundays, evenings with star chefs throughout the year and various events,” lists Jean-David in a non-exhaustive manner. Cohen, technical director.

“It can go from a children’s snack to a big truffle evening!”, he concludes.

With the Olympics just weeks away, the new owners are even in talks with several delegations to organize events throughout the fortnight. In the meantime, it will be possible to visit the Monticelli Pavilion starting this Tuesday, July 2.
