According to several sources, the factory belongs to an influential family in the city. A previous fire had already affected the factory in 2022, leading authorities to investigate the working conditions of employees, compliance with safety standards and the validity of its operating license. Rumors then circulated about a possible closure of the factory.
The factory had also been singled out for pollution of Merkala beach, following discharges of dyeing substances noted by an inspection commission. Faced with this new incident, local authorities are currently conducting an in-depth investigation to shed light on the causes of the fire. A commission will be responsible for inspecting the factory and verifying its compliance with current regulations.
