On the occasion of the media library party planned for this evening, the team of the latter invited the people of Saint-Gilles to come and create ghosts! This workshop is part of the theme that has animated the place all year: light.
“Attention, are you ready? 3, 2, 1… sing!”Michelle came with her microphone to the Saint-Gilles media library to create her ghost. Indeed, after having worked on the theme of light all year (photo workshops, light painting, or work on shadows and fluorescents), the team of the cultural venue offered a final workshop yesterday, that of the Fantomon.
The establishment is part of the Micro-folies network, which in partnership with La Villette offers a digital museum and various cultural and digital activities. We also created a Micro-festival, there is co-financing between La Villette and the City, and it is in this framework that we were able to have the ghosts” explains director Sylvie Fabarez.
But what are these famous ghosts? This is a creative process that transforms a movement into a luminous silhouette in three steps, accessible to everyone. To explain it to you, we followed Michelle. Michelle loves to sing, and it was this movement that she decided to ghost. Armed with her microphone, she stands in front of the capture station, guided by Eloi, and begins to pretend to sing for a few seconds.
A few adjustments to the video capture later, a board comes out of the wooden box, with the movement cut into static images in a few boxes.
Michelle will then go over her silhouette with black marker on each of the boxes, and will add, if she wishes, accessories, decorations… She chooses musical notes, to stick to her own theme.
Last step, the birth of the ghost: once satisfied with her line, she goes to the Scan, which records the board and thanks to dedicated software, the drawing is transformed into animation, and is projected on the screen in front of the scan . “It was very fun!” Total duration of the operation, in 15 minutes and an hour depending on the number of details you want to add to your drawing.
“We are the ones who create our own sound and light show with our residents” explains the director. “It’s a bit like the game Where’s Waldo, where people look for their silhouette by identifying the movement they made.” adds Zoé, from the Les Fantômes studio. Because these ghosts will be the highlight of the evening tonight: projected in Mapping from 10 p.m., they will close the media library party, where the results of the various workshops conducted during the year will also be exhibited.
It will all start at 7 p.m., at the Pavillon de la Culture: children aged 5 to 10 from the workshop “Do your show”, led by Virginie Leyder will present their show “But where has the light gone?”. The 45-minute show will be followed by the stroll of the SopaLoca brass band, which will lead all these beautiful people to the media library, where a real little party awaits the spectators. Guinguette atmosphere, savory and sweet food trucks, and above all the exhibitions of restitutions of the famous workshops.
At 9 p.m., SopaLoca change careers and offer the show Clap!, on the theme of cinema: after all, why make music when you can be a star of the silver screen? And to end the evening in style, the Fantômes will create a moving and participatory fresco full of poetry for almost an hour.
