A moment of sharing and conviviality

“Beyond the sporting aspect, these Olympics are primarily intended to foster social ties between residents of the three COS Charente nursing homes. They allow seniors to meet up, share a friendly moment and get involved in the news of the Olympic Games,” emphasizes Mathieu Médard, a teacher of adapted physical activities at the Mérignac nursing home. Organized three times a year, these sports meetings provide different perspectives and objectives for the adapted physical activity sessions offered daily to residents. “In addition to the recognized physical benefits of physical activity among seniors, these moments of sharing promote moral well-being and the fight against isolation,” rejoices Mathieu Médard.

The Olympic spirit instilled by the COS Charente is not limited to these sporting events. A joint “closing gala” is planned for September 30 in Mérignac, resuming the progress of the different stages of the Olympic Games. Led by a multidisciplinary team from the COS (psychomotor, occupational therapist, educational instructor, facilitator and teacher in adapted physical activity) and accompanied by volunteers, this unifying project demonstrates the strong commitment of the COS Charente to offering seniors a dynamic living environment, stimulating and conducive to sharing.
