Holidays: Suitcases are said to be breeding grounds for bacteria and vectors of infections: News

A few days before the start of the school holidays, microbiologists alert BFMTV about the cleanliness of the suitcases. They are handled a lot, but rarely cleaned, which can promote the transmission of infections.

The school holidays will start in a few days and the list of things to do before leaving is progressing well. You have booked your accommodation and transport, organized your program, done your laundry in preparation for the big departure and perhaps even already packed your bags. But have you washed your luggage? This step is essential, but regularly forgotten, including by the most obsessive. As BFMTV reminds us, microbiologists are warning about the dirtiness of our suitcases.

Thorough cleaning of luggage is especially important when you know how many times you touch your luggage. You hold it by its handle, you put all your belongings in it, sometimes you put it on your bed to prepare it… “Luggage is a vector for pathogens, which means it can transmit infections to you. It’s not just about appearance, it’s about health.”warns Jason Tetro, microbiologist, to our colleagues.

A few simple actions

To avoid the transmission of infections, a few simple actions should be added to your routine. When you come back from a trip, you wash your clothes so why not the suitcases? When it comes to bags without wheels and metal handles, you can put them in the washing machine. For other luggage, you can mix water with white vinegar and dishwashing liquid, spray it on your suitcase and rub with a clean cloth. It is important to emphasize the wheels and handles.
