The decision has been made. This Friday June 28, 2024, CNC President Dominique Boutonnat was found guilty by the Nanterre Criminal Court (Hauts-de-Seine) of having committed a sexual assault on his godson. The latter was sentenced to three years in prison, including one year in prison, according to theAFP. Dominique Boutonnat indicated that he resigned from the CNC today and appealed the court’s decision.

An attack during a trip to Greece

On the night of August 3, 2020, the president of the CNC allegedly committed non-consensual sexual touching on his young godson, the son of a couple of friends, during a trip to a villa in Greece. The accused allegedly went so far as to attempt to force the victim to perform oral sex. Several weeks later, the young man, in psychological distress, reported these facts and filed a complaint. During his trial held on June 14, the defendant mentioned consensual kisses, but not sexual violence.

Controversial retention

Despite the filing of a complaint and the opening of an investigation, Dominique Boutonnat was kept in his position. He was reappointed for three years as head of the CNC in July 2022. In recent months, several feminist collectives have called for his resignation. The actress Judith Godrèche, who denounced the silence present in the world of cinema on the subject of sexual violence, heard by the Senate in February, had also requested the dismissal of the accused.
