The Katia Krafft college should open its doors for the start of the 2025 school year. With a surface area of 7,000 m2 and a budget of 37.2 million euros, the first ecological wall has been installed.

The work on the future Katia Krafft college in Vénissieux continues its ecological ambition. With a surface area of 7,000 m2, the establishment should be able to accommodate up to 730 students from Vénissieux and Saint-Fons from the start of the 2025 school year. With a budget of 37.2 million euros, the future college “stands out in terms of ecological and responsible construction and thus carries an ambition of environmental exemplarity in terms of design”indicates the Lyon Metropolis in a press release.

Walls built and insulated with wood and straw

The work was, in fact, designed with an ecological approach in mind: low-impact construction site charter, 82% bio-sourced building materials, construction and energy carbon footprints are “25% lower than the 2025 regulatory thresholds” or even rainwater management. The project has also received the High Environmental Quality Certification (HQE) excellent level, the community is again pleased.

The structures and facades of buildings will, for example, be “mostly” designed and insulated with wood and straw. Several partitions will have raw earth facings. The company OBM Constructions is responsible for the design, construction, operation and maintenance for a period of five years.
