The difficulty in electrifying the towers on Route 155 between Lac-Édouard and Lac-Bouchette as well as the refusal of large cellular operators to provide roaming in places like Lac-Édouard could find a solution.

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry and Member of Parliament for St-Maurice-Champlain, François-Philippe Champagne, told Monlatuque.com that tests will soon be undertaken to validate the effectiveness of a new technology called universal coverage.

This technology would make cellular telephony accessible in remote areas and would work using satellites, anywhere in the world.

Future versions of cell phones could be compatible with this universal coverage. It would initially work only for voice but would allow emergency calls to be made in forested areas.

Tests have been carried out in regions such as the Atlantic, but the MP and minister would like to carry them out during the summer. He would like this operation to be carried out in Haute Mauricie.

Lac-Édouard Mayor Larry Bernier has repeatedly lamented that the tower, which was built in his municipality, is being shunned by major cellular operators who do not want to provide roaming there. Only Écotel SIM cards (Ambra Solutions) work there.
