Former clerk Frédéric Janssens sues comedian Pierre Scheurette… for a joke

The Brussels court of first instance is examining this Thursday a caricature published in the magazine “Moustique”, which Frédéric Janssens considers “humiliating and degrading”, even homophobic. The author of the drawing disputes these accusations across the board.

TWell, here is the former clerk of the Walloon parliament, Frédéric Janssens. He is initiating legal proceedings, the pleadings of which are expected this Thursday before the Brussels court of first instance. But there is no question here of his management of parliament. At the heart of the matter: a joke. A photomontage, to be precise, produced by the humorous columnist Pierre Scheurette, and published in the magazine Mosquito on April 12, 2023.

A reading which is, obviously, not shared by Pierre Scheurette. Firstly because he assures that he had no knowledge of Mr. Janssens’ homosexuality. “And someone’s sexual orientation is not a laughing matter for me,” explains Pierre Scheurette. “Then as a humor professional, I can only feel insulted that anyone could imagine that I wanted to make a play on words between tent and aunt,” jokes the columnist.
