Public transport: vehicle fleet soon to be renewed

A new fleet of vehicles for Réseau Mistral. This Thursday, June 27, the metropolitan council of Toulon Provence Méditerranée (TPM) voted in favor of the creation of a program authorization, with a view to the purchase of equipment for the public transport service. This amounts to a maximum of 60.31 ME, for a period going from 2024 to 2028.

The project in question provides for the purchase of 95 buses: 8 electric articulated buses, 17 HVO hybrid articulated buses (fuel based on hydrogenated vegetable oil), 14 electric standard buses, 40 HVO hybrid standard buses, 12 electric minibuses and 4 PMR electric minibuses (people with reduced mobility).

As a reminder, a public service delegation contract was concluded with the company RATP Dev on May 1, 2023. The forecast investment plan included in particular the renewal of part of the Metropolis’ vehicle fleet.

While he assured that he was satisfied with the future acquisition of electric vehicles, elected representative Philippe Leroy (Toulon en commun) was more doubtful about the rest.

“Large hybrid-diesel HVO buses remain diesel buses, certainly emitting a little less pollutants than pure diesels, but certainly beyond the legislation which will come into force in 2030. Before buying these polluting buses, “Perhaps it would be wise to wait a bit for technological progress and price reductions for less polluting buses?”he said.

Mistral Network buses will continue to go to Sanary

The operation was experimental. It will now be made permanent. Since September 2023 and the signing of an agreement between TPM and the Sud Sainte Baume urban community, passengers could be dropped off or picked up by Réseau Mistral buses in the town of Sanary, thanks to an extension of lines 72 (summer) and 83.

This service, in the test phase, has apparently provided satisfaction. The two communities have thus decided to sign a new cooperation agreement from September 1st, and until April 30, 2029. Sud Sainte Baume will finance up to 50% of the operating costs generated by this expansion of the public transport offer.

Carpooling Toulon – Cuers: agreement signed with the Region

The Toulon – Cuers carpooling line is getting closer. Scheduled for a few weeks, this experiment – the first of its kind at the national level – aims, in the long term, to save two million kilometers traveled and 400 tons of CO2 over a full year.

Yesterday, the president of the Metropolis, Jean-Pierre Giran, was authorized to sign the partnership agreement with the South Paca Region for the assembly and financing of this line, which will be made up of twenty stops, including ten on the territory of TPM.

Management for the Loubière car park

Elected officials have decided on the management method for the future Loubière silo car park, in Toulon, whose delivery is expected in the coming months. Direct management, with integration into the management of metropolitan car parks, was chosen. The public car park will have 145 parking spaces, to which will be added the 483 private spaces marketed by the developer.

The prices charged in the public part will be the same as in the cheapest car parks in the municipality and resident subscriptions may be suggested. The night subscription will be offered as an experiment with hours from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. An element that tickled Councilor Amaury Navarranne (National Rally): “We should perhaps make sure to review this, to regain equality of treatment with other car parks where we have evening and weekend subscriptions from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., which leaves a range of hours for people who work . Imposing an 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. workday seems to me to be a breach of equality.”

And to vice-president Geneviève Levy to respond: “We need to have a period of observation. We will look very closely, and we will be able to come back to it.”.
