On this road near Caen, traffic is diverted almost all summer: obstacles are piling up

The circulation became very complicated in this sector, north of Caen (Calvados). The departmental road D220which links Carpiquet to Colleville-Montgomery, passing through Authie, Saint-Contest, Villons-les-Buissons and Mathieu, is dotted with obstacles.

Since June 12, 2024, the roadway has collapsed at the exit of the hamlet of Buron in Saint-Contest. Traffic is cut off in both directions until at least Saturday, July 13. Diversions are in place, although it is not yet known when the work will take place.

Additional blockage on the D220 road in Authie

The same situation of blocking breeds a little further down the road, in the town of Authie. Not for the same reasons. Since June 17, the portion of Liberation Streetwhich runs from Place des 37 Canadiens to the stadium roundabout, is closed to traffic. It must remain barred like this. until Wednesday August 14.

A construction site has started. Trenches have already been dug. During these two months, Caen la mer is renewing the underground wastewater network.

We intervened to change the pipes that were in poor condition and made of asbestos. We also corrected the lack of slope that prevented the flow.

Diversions through the small streets of the town

The intervention is done over a 150 meter stretch, with resumption of connections in front of each accommodation. The cost of the work is estimated at nearly €200,000.

A deviation is established. In particular for Twisto buses, three lines of which – 20, 100 and 125 – are diverted into adjacent streets.
