It has been since Monday June 17 that
Jay Slater, aged 19, disappeared in an area of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. For two weeks, searches have continued to try to find the 19-year-old young man. The latter disappeared after trying to take a long walk to return to his accommodation on Tenerife. He was there to attend the NRG rave festival.

Indeed, the apprentice mason had gone to an AirBnB in the village of Masca, which was about 40 minutes’ drive from his place of residence, before he tried to return on foot. A local resident said he last saw Jay, in the northwest of Tenerife, just after 8am on June 17.

The circumstances of Jay Slater’s disappearance

He was walking north along the road out of the village after stopping to ask directions from this famous local resident who testified. His phone rang for the last time near an observation point, where the search teams went yesterday to begin a new day of operation.

Lucy Law, a friend of Jay Slatersaid he called her shortly after he was last seen. He told her he was thirsty, had no water and had just 1% battery left on his phone. Several prominent figures have been involved in the search for Jay’s disappearance, including Detective Constable Mark Williams-Thomas who travelled to Tenerife to help Jay’s family.

A heavy decision was taken this Sunday

However, after two weeks intensive researchthe Civil Guard said this Sunday that these operations were over. They lasted almost fifteen days, and mobilized sniffer dogs, a helicopter and mountain rescue experts in mountainous terrain. A spokeswoman said: “The search operation is now over, although the case remains open.”

The search officially ended this Sunday morning at 10 a.m. A source also said about this : “Daily operations in and around Masca, near where Jay was last seen, have ended. If any information comes in that warrants a further search, it will be taken into account. I understand that Jay’s parents have been informed of what is obviously a major development. Nothing relevant was found in yesterday’s large-scale search.” All our thoughts are with Jay Slater’s family.
