A 69-year-old man has tragically lost his life, this Wednesday June 26 in La Grande-Motte. His lifeless body was recovered by Hérault firefighters late in the morning, around 11 a.m., near the Paillote Bambou, on Couchant beach.

Initial investigations by the gendarmes of the Lunel company indicate that the victim, who apparently did not know how to swim, had been seen walking in the waves where he could stand. However, the swell present in this area probably carried the man out to sea. Shortly afterwards, another person saw him floating on the water, unconscious.

First drowning of the year

Emergency services immediately intervened, removing the man from the water and providing first aid on the beach while waiting for additional help to arrive. Unfortunately, despite prolonged attempts at resuscitation by cardiac massage, the sixty-year-old could not be saved. According to the gendarmes, this fatal accident turns out to be the first drowning of the year on the Mediterranean coast.
