Highlight of Food Bank activity, the annual national collection will take place Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November 2024 in large and medium-sized stores in the Jura.
“The collection represents approximately 20% of our suppliesso it is very important for us,” specifies Jean-Louis Duprezpresident of the Jura Food Bank.
“We know that the Jurassians are united and thanks to them we harvest on average 60 tonnes of food during this collection.
All solidarity associations mobilized
More than 900 peopleall associations combined, will be mobilized to collect donations. They will be present in approximately 90 medium and large areas in the Jura regionduring store opening hours.
“The scouts, Secours populaire, Restos du coeur, Rotary… everyone gives us a helping hand! It’s a great show of solidarity.”
A shopping bag offered for each donation
All people who show solidarity by making a donation to the Jura Food Bank will be offered a shopping bag bearing the image of the associationwhich is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
And flyer with the needs of the Food Bank (see below) will be distributed at store entrances to guide people in their purchases.
And after?
After this important operation, the work doesn't stop there. Most of the foodstuffs are sent to Champagnole, where the departmental premises are located, so that volunteers can sort the products.
“It represents a good month of work », underlines the president. “You have to sort by product, by date, by size for the diapers… It’s a real painstaking job, which fortunately always happens in a good mood.”
The Food Bank needs:
> Canned foods: cooked dishes with meat, fish, fruits in syrup, canned vegetables
> Groceries: flours, sugars, oils, pasta, rice, semolina, dried vegetables, tomato sauces, condiments, chocolates
> Breakfast: tea, ground coffee, instant coffee, cocoa, cereals, jams
> Hygiene: household cleaning products, toothpaste, soap, shower products, feminine hygiene, razors, baby diapers size 4, 5, 6
> No fresh produce, no baby food, no frozen foods, no alcohol
