On June 21, 2014, for National Organ Donation Day, an imposing stele representing 3 faces was erected at the Libourne Hospital Center to honor donors and their families. Through its financial participation and its presence, the France ADOT 33 association was part of the celebration

A place of memory “in town”

10 years later, on June 22, 2024, the city of Libourne once again joined forces with the hospital center – represented by Dr Hubert Grand, Head of the multi-purpose intensive care unit -, with France ADOT 33 and its friendly associations (AGCPSO and AMATHSO) to inaugurate a place of memory in tribute to organ donors. This on a highly historic and mythical square in the city, Place Joffre.
This square adjoining the old military square is truly the ideal place to represent united and civic values.

France ADOT 33 chose a Turner oak as its “Tree of Life”. It is a hybrid oak which has evergreen foliage and flowers in spring. This choice and this inauguration mark the mobilization of the city and all partners in favor of the donation, following one of the proposals of the Manifesto for organ donation allowing, in the long term, to deploy in France a real culture du don.

Motivated speakers

Ms. Sandy Chauveau, deputy to the city of Libourne, recalled the municipality’s desire to raise awareness of organ donation. “ Although the law states that we are all donors, and despite the commitment of professionals and associations, all daily ambassadors of organ donation, given the insufficient number of transplants performed each year and the increase in the refusal rate, it is without hesitation that the city of Libourne decided to take part in this movement to encourage dialogue on organ donation. »

France ADOT 33 and the Collective associations had to brave bad weather (rain and wind). They retreated under the bandstand for the speeches of the authorities and the testimonies of the transplant recipients.

Thus Josiane, Vice President of France ADOT 33 and Francis, kidney/heart transplant recipients, Hervé heart transplant recipient, Anne-Marie mother of a heart transplant recipient for 26 years, Gilles liver transplant recipient and Marie-France testified in front of an attentive audience . Their presence was proof that the transplant works!

Libourne, ambassador city for organ donation

As for the “organ donation ambassador city” signs, they concretized the commitment of the city and its elected officials. They were put in place the day before by Technical Services. A copy, shown to the audience, was applauded for a long time.

« Being an ambassador city for organ donation means giving visibility to this public health issue, so that, at our level, each Libourne resident can inform their loved ones of their choice regarding the donation of their organs. », recalled Ms. Chauveau.

Before dispersing, everyone was able to obtain information and take away information documents, the Ambassador card and the “green ribbon”, the link that unites donor and recipient.

All partners have made an appointment for World Organ Donor Day.
