Around thirty people from the associative and cultural world of Amiens call for a vote against the extreme right

A few days before the first round of the early legislative elections, caused by the dissolution of the National Assembly on June 9, actors from the world of culture and the associative fabric of Amiens signed a joint press release to call on voters to barrier against the far right

June 9, 2024, was like a bombshell for Alexandre Cabral, director of the Amiens urban farm L’île aux fruits. This dissolution raises fears of the arrival of the far right in power“, he laments. According to him, the potential accession of the National Rally to Matignon following the legislative elections is a real danger for the world of associations and culture.

But with Antoine Grillon, director of the Lune des Pirates concert hall, they had an idea during the evening of the Fête de la Musique: to write in an open letter their desire to put up a barrier against the RN on Sundays June 30 and 7 July, with the help of associations and the world of culture in Amiens. “It was necessary to launch a dynamic“, he adds.

From June 24, 2024, Alexandre Cabral decides to make a phone call to Amiens community and institutional stakeholders to give strength to their mobilization. Closed three days later, the letter collected more than thirty signatures including Yannick Javaudin, general director of the Cirque Jules Verne, Laurent Dréano, director of the Maison de la Culture, and Marie-France Aubert, artistic director of the Festival Amiens International Film Festival.

We are deeply opposed to the values embodied by the National Rally and reject its messages of hatred, division and withdrawal.”

We could not remain silent in the face of what was happening. We cannot give up. And it’s quite a strong movement because certain establishments that are mobilizing with us are attached to the State“, firmly defends Alexandre Crabal. Among the signatories, we also find the president of the Carment association, the president of Recyclettes and the director of Picardie Nature.

These leaders of cultural, social and environmental structures believe that the extreme right “uses people’s suffering to sow discord“, and denounce the ideals defended by Jordan Bardella’s party. “We are deeply opposed to the values embodied by the National Rally and reject its messages of hatred, division and withdrawal.we can read in their letter. Our institutions advocate, on the contrary, on a daily basis in our city, openness, respect for identities and opinions, ecology and living together, without discrimination.“. This federation of the associative world brings comfort to the heart of the director of L’île aux fruits and hopes that the voters of Amiens will be there at the polls and will hear their appeal.
