With a one-way or completely closed Saint-Jacques viaduct, traffic becomes complicated (again) in Clermont-Ferrand

It’s an understatement to say that traffic is going to be (even more) disrupted in the city center of Clermont-Ferrand this summer. Starting Monday, July 1, it will be impossible for motorists to go down the Saint-Jacques viaduct. Later, it will be in the uphill direction…

Started in July 2023, the rehabilitation of the Saint-Jacques viaduct is not yet complete. Long and technical, the project must make it possible to reinforce the structure of the emblematic work in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand to ensure its sustainability and the safety of users.

As a direct result of the work, this lane of some 430 meters will be partly closed to traffic during the summer. Signposted diversions will be in place for drivers.

Traffic closures

  • From July 1 to 14: descending
  • From July 15 to August 4: in the upward direction
  • From August 5 to 21: total closure

These measures only apply to vehicles. Trams and pedestrians can still travel in both directions.

Night work

There will also be 14 nights of complete closure of the viaduct to traffic (including tram and pedestrians), from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • In July, Monday 8, 22 and 29
  • In August, Monday 5, 12 and 19
  • In September, Mondays 2, 9 and 16
  • In October, Monday 7, 14 and 28
  • In November, Monday 4 and 18.
