On November 16, Freddy Gueudin, municipal councilor of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, was summoned by Mayor Gérard Régnier. The latter wanted to clarify the situation after the announcement of the elected official becoming departmental referent of the Union of Rights (UDR). This party, led by Éric Ciotti, is also a recent ally of the National Rally since the legislative elections this summer.
This support quickly created a gap with the municipal majority “New Cap for Villeneuve-sur-Lot” Gérard Régnier reminded Freddy Gueudin that the majority's line of conduct requires solidarity and cohesion, far from any alignment with extreme ideologies. Following this interview, the mayor decided to suspend Freddy Gueudin from his duties as delegate for monitoring the work. By this decision, the latter is no longer part of the municipal majority.
A swollen controversy on social networks
On social networks, certain publications have insinuated a compatibility between the ideas of the UDR and those of the municipal majority, an interpretation that Gérard Régnier firmly rejects. In a press release, he expressed his indignation at “instrumentalization” of this affair and denounces the ” fake news ” broadcast online. Personally hurt by these amalgamations, the mayor wanted to reiterate his attachment to republican values and his rejection of extremist ideas, wherever they come from.
While the municipal council of November 25 promises to be lively, Gérard Régnier wishes to put an end to partisan quarrels and continue his mandate “serenely and wisely, far from all these partisan quarrels”. He invites those who fuel these controversies to think about their responsibility in a climate already marked by national political tensions.
