The Municipal Housing Office in Sept-Îles keeps apartments available on 1is July to accommodate families who could not find housing in the context of the housing crisis. Two families and two other people have made requests since the beginning of June. The OMH will provide them with 4 housing units.

Last year, the Office accommodated three families, just before the end of the leases on 1is July, thanks to the same program with the Société d’Habitation du Québec. Citizens without housing can submit applications until October.

“These are often people who have had difficulty paying their rent in the past. It is our mission to welcome them,” explains Caroline Felli, director of the Municipal Housing Office of Sept-Îles.

Very low vacancy rate

Considering the very low vacancy rate and the high price of housing, the OMH intervenes urgently, with in particular some housing units of 5 or 6 and a half rooms available. The Office has saved homeless people in the past, maintains President Guy Berthe.

Also president of the committee which activates housing solutions, Mr. Berthe took stock Monday at the public meeting of the Sept-Îles municipal council on the project to build two apartment blocks near the CPE Nid d’hirondelle on Comeau Street . Work was launched on June 17 for the first building, for which funding of $25M was confirmed in record time.

The president of OMH and CODÉLO Sept-Îles aims to obtain the necessary money for the second project as quickly as possible. Guy Berthe wants the two 60-unit buildings to be constructed in parallel by the same general contractor. The City of Sept-Îles would thus add 120 new housing units available in January 2026.
