Georges Mikautadze’s move to RC Lens depends on Premier League-linked Elye Wahi

Georges Mikautadze (23) is currently in great form at Euro 2024. He helped Georgia secure a historic qualification for the round of 16 by scoring three goals in the first three matches. Currently at FC Metz, the striker declared before the tournament that he would stay in Ligue 1 and would therefore leave the club Garnets, who were relegated to Ligue 2.

However, its destination does not seem any clearer. It looked like he would join AS Monaco, but they are no longer in pole position to sign the Georgia international. They remain in the race but are now caught by the chasing pack. Olympique Lyonnais appeared to be a credible destination, but that deal now appears highly unlikely after Alexandre Lacazette opted to complete the remaining year of his contract rather than join the Saudi Pro League.

RC Lens are also linked but the transfer is complex and financially difficult. Metz, before Euro 2024, were asking around €20 million for Mikautadze; given his performance in the current tournament in Germany, it is entirely possible that this valuation has increased.

In order to make the move a success, Blood and Gold It would be necessary to sell, given the new austere regime imposed by the president of the club. Elye Wahi is the main candidate for sale. The French junior international arrived for big money from Montpellier HSC last summer but was disappointed. Lens are now looking to cash in, amid interest from an unnamed Premier League team, according to Market on foot journalist Sébastien Denis. Wahi remains key for Lens if they want to move for Mikautadze.
