Book Festival 2024: 5 things to remember

The 38th Saint-Étienne Book Festival is revealed!
We can already give you the dates: from October 11 to 13. For the rest, here is some information, just to wait until D-Day.

1. Philippe Besson and Marie Pavlenko, godfather and godmother

The first, playwright and screenwriter, has just signed his latest novel, Un soir d’été, published by Julliard, inspired by a true story. Author of around twenty other novels, including His Brother and Stop With Your Lies, Philippe Besson was notably selected for the Goncourt and Medici prizes for Un Garçon d’Italie. He will be the sponsor of this 38th edition.

The second, Marie Pavlenko, is a novelist. We owe her Rita, I am your sun, Such a little bird, for which she won the Babelio Young Adult prize, and Crossing the mountains and coming to be born here, her latest work. She will be there godmother of the 11th Les Mots en scène festival.

2. Five places to visit

From marquee to marquee, the Book Festival is always an opportunity to stroll through the city center. The Great Bookstore will still be held on Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, which will also host the Manufacture des savoirs, a debate space as well as activities (comic book battles, shows, window drawings, etc.), while the Magic Mirrors will once again be enthroned on Place Jean-Jaurès, next to the booksellers’ village.

The Publishers’ Village Place Dorian will stand and Place Chavanelle will once again host the vast youth marquee and its activities this year.

Finally, a new addition to this 2024 edition, the Tarentaize district is also becoming unmissable. La Comète will in fact be the scene of the grand inaugural evening, the media library will offer an exhibition of the children’s work of Benjamin Chaud and the Cinémathèque will welcome professionals for a day dedicated to youth and young adult poetry.

3. Pierre Gagnaire, guest of honor

We no longer present it. THE famous multi-star chef Pierre Gagnaire, originally from the Loire, signs his new book Une vie en cuisine, a work which retraces the personal and culinary journey of this essential figure in French gastronomy.

4. Fantasy and Manga in the spotlight

Essential genres, Fantasy and Manga will have their place during this 38th edition with a stand dedicated to French and European mangakas, an exhibition dedicated to the Drakoo label and a one-hour masterclass devoted to manga.

A 100% Saint-Etienne poster

Imagined by the Saint-Etienne illustrator Éric Bourgier, author of the Servitude series, the visual of the 2024 Book Festival resonates like a true ode to reading, bright and soothing.
