This day will record the heat record of the week, particularly in the north-west of Burgundy and the south-east of the country according to Météo-France. The weather will also be marked by stormy weather.

“Heat at its maximum on Thursday,” Météo-France predicted. This Thursday, the day promises to be sunny, with the thermometer reaching “up to 35°C locally in Occitanie and the lower Rhône valley, and locally 33 to 34°C between Burgundy and Champagne”. The 35°C mark could also be exceeded in the South-East according to the forecaster’s latest bulletin.

Thus cities such as Toulouse, Reims, Montélimar and Auxerre will respectively be able to experience maximums of between 32°C and 35°C. Only the atmosphere in the Channel will cool down with a mercury between 20 and 25° C and a cloudy or even very cloudy sky.

A few locally stormy showers may occur this morning in New Aquitaine and western Occitanie. This unstable weather will shift towards the Massif Central, the Centre, Burgundy, the east of Île-de-France and the Grand Est then the Rhône-Alpes in the afternoon.

Hail likely

According to Météo-France, this deterioration will only be the “first pulse in a series of stormy waves, caused by the gradual rise towards France of cold high-altitude air from the Iberian Peninsula”.

It should worsen from Saturday “with a risk of strong storms (intense precipitation, hail, violent winds) which could affect the southern two-thirds of the country,” specifies the meteorological service.

From Friday, temperatures will drop across the ocean front with the return of the westerly wind. A scenario which will become widespread this weekend. Sunday will also be the rainiest day of the week. The next, “will see the return of somewhat timid temperatures for the beginning of July under the influence of ocean winds”, indicated Météo-France.
