Dakar (©2024 Afriquinfos) – The results of the legislative elections on November 17 in Senegal gave a large victory to Pastef, the ruling party. Contrary to the traditional scenes of demands that we generally observe, the opponents instead conceded and welcomed the overwhelming victory of Pastef, consolidating its hold on the national political landscape, marking a major stage in the political history of the country.
Hailing the democratic process and the maturity of the Senegalese people, former President Macky Sall, Barthélémy Dias, Amadou Ba, and other opponents in turn sent their congratulations to Pastef, while reaffirming their political commitment.
Former Senegalese President Macky Sall, now head of the Takku Wallu Senegal Coalition, congratulated Pastef, Ousmane Sonko’s party. The ex-president recognized the defeat of his camp and sent his warm congratulations to Ousmane Sonko and Pastef. “ I would like, on my own behalf and that of the leaders and members of the Takku Wallu Senegal Coalition, to congratulate the Pastef Coalition on its victory at the end of the legislative elections this Sunday, November 17 2024,” wrote Macky Sall.
The opponent Amadou Ba, leader of Jamm ak Njariñ (Peace and Security), a major figure in these elections, elegantly recognized the supremacy of Pastef, warmly congratulating the party for this success. In a statement full of respect and patriotism, he praised the democratic maturity of the Senegalese people, highlighting the peaceful and exemplary conduct of the vote.
« Beyond electoral competitions, it is Senegal which must always win, and it is Senegal which has won again today », underlined Mr. Ba, congratulating Pastef for his victory noted at the stage of the first counts which are continuing in several constituencies.
« This moment transcends partisan divisions. It is a victory for our democracy and for Senegal, a reminder that politics must serve to build and unite », affirmed Amadou Ba, before renewing his commitment to the unity and progress of the country.
« I would like to warmly congratulate the winner of the elections, Pastef, on his victory “, indicated Barthélémy Dias of the Samm Sa Kaddu (Keep your promise) coalition, also mayor of Dakar, describing this election as ” strong democratic moment ».
He expressed his gratitude to his supporters and promised to continue to defend the interests of Senegal. “ Your support is a source of inspiration and motivation to continue to defend the interests of our country and our youth “, he added.
Bougane Gueye Dany, 11th on the Samm Sa Kaddu list and leader of the Gueum Sa Bopp Les Jambars movement, also welcomed the people’s choice. “ The Senegalese voted and confirmed their choice of March 24 » where they also elected Pastef’s candidate, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, during the presidential election, with more than 54% of the votes.
The businessman and boss of the Dmedia group “urged” the presidential camp to now focus on meeting the needs of the Senegalese.
Babacar Abba Mbaye, member of Takhawou Senegal, praised the performance of the party led by Ousmane Sonko. In a statement, he underlined the exceptional nature of this success, while criticizing the excesses which, according to him, undermine the Senegalese opposition.
« Congratulations to Pastef. A great victory built by a leader who is consistent in his strategic choices, with a perfectly integrated vision of politics and electoral competition. “, declared Babacar Abba Mbaye. He insisted on the central role of a party that he describes as “unfathomable resources”, in contrast to a fragmented opposition, more motivated by “personal score-settling and misguided ambitions”.
The victory of Senegal’s ruling party in legislative elections gives President Bassirou Diomaye Faye a strong mandate to implement the radical economic and social reforms he promised when he was elected in March.
According to government spokesperson Amadou Moustapha Ndieck Sarré, the party obtained between 90 and 95% of the results, guaranteeing a qualified majority in the National Assembly.
About seven million of the country’s 18 million people voted to choose deputies for five-year terms.
