For several weeks, the City of Roberval has had to deal with acts of vandalism in the Pointe Scott area. A cedar hedge was burned, toilets were blocked, the toilet block was damaged and excrement spread on the walls was noted by the City’s public works team.

In interview on the show Public place, the mayor, Serge Bergeron, describes these actions as unacceptable.

The public works people have cleaning and disinfection to do. […] It’s on the walls, it’s everywhere. It’s difficult to understand and even more difficult to accept, because we make efforts to properly maintain our parks, our greenerydid he declare.

The City of Roberval has therefore made the decision to keep the toilet doors at Pointe-Scott locked.

In the case of toilets, we have never seen this in Roberval. I had never seen that, nor had the people I spoke with.

Serge Bergeron adds that cameras will be installed in the locations targeted by these acts, to put an end to vandalism.

How to get to the fact and discover this individual? Well, we’re going to need cameras for this type of act, but for other misdeeds too. We had problems two years ago with vandalism at the Jardin des Ursulines […] and we put in cameras and it was resolvedhe said.

The mayor of Roberval, however, wants to be reassuring.

These are isolated events and I want to reassure the citizens of Roberval. We supervise well, we hired two security agents to walk around strategic places in Roberval evening and night, where he can […] there have been misdeeds, including Pointe Scott, the Jardin des Ursulines, the Quai des Anglais, where the hedge was burned.
