“By supporting TOHU and our local artists, we are making a significant investment in our cultural industries, which are key drivers of our economy,” said Minister Miller. “The arts and culture sector not only enriches our lives, it also creates jobs, boosts tourism and supports local businesses. It is a vibrant and dynamic part of our society that deserves our continued support.”

As part of the 2024 budget, this federal investment aims to support local artists, create new jobs and help the tourism industry in the Montreal metropolis.

“This significant support allows us to partially assume the significant increase in broadcasting costs while allowing Montreal to shine as an international capital of circus arts,” added Stéphane Lavoie, general director and programming at TOHU.

The 15th edition of the Montréal completely circus festival takes place from July 4 to 14. Free outdoor events take place in several locations in the Latin Quarter, as well as at the TOHU public square. The 7 Doigs de la main troupe also presents its show Giantess! every evening at 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., at the Esplanade de la Place Ville-Marie (except July 8).

“When our government supports projects like the Montréal completely circus festival, it not only helps create jobs and support our tourism industry, but it also supports our entire community,” said Patricia Lattanzio, MP for Saint-Léonard—Saint -Michael.

“Let’s take the next step”

Asked to react to the Liberal defeat in the by-election in the Ontario riding of Toronto—St. Paul’s, Minister Miller affirms that we must “shake up” internally and move forward to help the population face current issues.

“It’s a loss,” he admitted at a press conference, specifying that we must “recognize” this big defeat in a long-standing liberal bastion. “Internal reflection is very important and must be done.”

“Canadians want the government to get back on track. That’s what we plan to do.”

According to Minister Miller, the current leader of the Liberal Party of Canada Justin Trudeau is “best placed” to fight against the leader of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre. “Pierre Poilievre has a vision of Canada that is not ours. He wants to destroy a country that I love,” he said at a press conference in Montreal. “I plan to fight for Canada.”

“If the trend continues, we could face a defeat at any time,” admitted Minister Miller at a press conference. “We must emphasize the issues that concern Canadians.”
