Exhibition from June 25 to September 22, 2024 at Carmel.

“Metaphysical Gardens: exploring the boundaries between Nature and Artifice” by Miguel Chevalier.

This exhibition is made up of two digital installations on the theme of Flora, “Méta-Nature AI” and “Extra-Natural” as well as a series of drawings made with a robot.

Meta-Nature IA

Meta-Nature IA 2024 is a work of generative virtual reality projected onto the vaults of Carmel.

It is based on a database made up of different species of trees, leaves, flowers and fruits, in 2D and 3D created by artificial intelligence. Miguel Chevalier has introduced new images into his database inspired by the flowers and trees of the garden created by Placide Massey.

The result is an imaginary nature of great variety and striking plastic beauty, with iridescent and pearly reflections. This exuberant nature is reminiscent of the jungle in the paintings of Douanier Rousseau.

Extra-Natural

In parallel with this installation, the generative and interactive virtual reality work “Extra-Natural” is projected on the back wall. This creation presents an imaginary virtual nature that goes beyond botanical classifications. It uses algorithms that create artificial life universes and evolves in interaction with the visitor thanks to presence sensors.

Carmel is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Free admission.
