Tdragging your suitcase on the cobblestones of Bordeaux for several hours while waiting to get to your hotel or take your train can quickly turn out to be laborious. To avoid this inconvenience, luggage storage solutions are gradually being developed in Bordeaux.

Several retailers offer to store bags and suitcases in their back shop for the day or more, during their opening hours: tobacconists, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Most of them operate by reservation, via a website or an application (Nannybag, Radical Storage, Bounce, etc.), and you then have to pay an average of 5 euros per day. “We started offering this service a year and a half ago and it works very well,” assures Yves Appolinaire, who runs a tobacconist on rue Sainte-Colombe. “The last time, we were on the verge of refusing luggage… We had checked in 70!”

For Alexis and Brice, passing through the city, the solution seems ideal. “We were desperately looking for a place to leave our things for the day, while waiting to join the friends with whom we are sleeping this evening,” they explain after having left their suitcases for a few hours in a business located near the Grand-Théâtre. “It’s more convenient to leave them in the city center than at the station,” continues Brice. Only downside: “I typed ‘luggage storage’ on the Internet and I had a lot of trouble finding… you should know that it’s called luggage storage! »

Brice and Alexis left their suitcases in a downtown business for a few hours.

New automated lockers

Nicolas Logvinenko has just opened a new space on rue Huguerie, Pop In, in which there are automated lockers of different sizes. After creating his concierge service a few years ago, he noticed that travelers often found themselves with their luggage on their hands. “This locker system is quite developed abroad, in Rome and Seville for example, but in France, we see them less and less in train stations and airports,” he analyzes.

“The locker system is quite developed abroad, but in France, we see them less and less”

In its premises, no physical reception, but a QR Code and tablet system which allows access to the premises under open video surveillance, between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The price varies depending on the duration of use of the locker and the size of the baggage.

A brand new premises at the station

Lamine Mammasse is responsible for the new locker room which will open in hall 1 of Saint-Jean station by the summer.

At the station, the lockers have been abandoned. “There were a lot of problems with the risk of attacks, thefts…” explains Yassin El Aouadi. Since April, the porter has been monitoring a locker temporarily installed at the back of the building. But by the start of the summer season, a brand new space with conveyor belt, scanner and XXL shelves will open in the lower hall (1). “The idea is to offer a real left-luggage service, with monitoring,” explains Lamine Mammasse, site manager for the Bagmobile company, chosen as a service provider by the SNCF. “We want to prioritize contact: travelers are also looking for information about the city and, above all, a secure place. »

(1) Here too, the price varies: it takes between 3 and 15 euros per day.
