Two FC Barcelona phenomena will lead the Spanish team at the 2024 Olympic Games… but not Lamine Yamal. The Barça diamond, currently present at Euro 2024 with Spain, will not follow up with the football tournament of the 2024 Olympic Games (July 24 – August 11), as revealed by the Spanish Federation on Wednesday, June 26. The headliners of the Spanish team will be his club partners Pau Cubarsi and Fermín López.

Pau Cubarsi, the revelation of the season in Catalonia as a central defender at just 17 years old, was removed at the last moment from Luis de la Fuente’s squad for Euro 2024, which his two Catalan teammates Fermín López are currently competing for and Lamine Yamal. Villarreal midfielder Álex Baena, also present at Euro 2024 and starter in the last group match against Albania (1-0), was also called up, despite the slogan of Spanish clubs not to not allow their players to play in the Euro and then the Olympics this summer.
