The air quality is degraded in Morbihan on Wednesday June 26, 2024.

Ozone threshold exceeded

According to Air Breizh, a non-profit association operating under the 1901 law, an organization approved by the Ministry of the Environment for monitoring air quality in Brittany, predicts that the ozone threshold (03) will be exceeded.

The two Morbihan stations, Vannes and Lorient, display air quality bad.

What instructions to follow?

“Created in 1994, the current ATMO* index is a daily indicator of air quality calculated for towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants, based on the concentrations in the air of four regulatory pollutants: sulfur dioxide ( SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3) and particles with a diameter less than 10 µm (PM10),” explains the association. Here are the 6 classes of the index: Good / Average / Degraded / Bad / Very bad / Extremely bad.

Instructions should be followed for vulnerable or sensitive people:

  • Favor shorter outings and those that require the least effort,
  • Avoid outings during the afternoon, when the sunshine is at its maximum,
  • Avoid intense physical and sporting activities (including competitions) outdoors; those that are not very intense, inside, can be maintained.

It is recommended to maintain the usual ventilation and aeration practices and not to aggravate the effects of this pollution by exposing oneself to additional irritant factors (tobacco smoke, use of solvents indoors, wood heating, exposure to pollens in season, etc.).

Good to know. The ATMO index gives a general indication. it is not the only indicator to characterize pollution episodes.
