The feminist association Same Team launches a call for demonstrations on Monday, November 25, the international day for the eradication of violence against women. The procession will leave from Place Saint-Roch in Mont-de-Marsan at 6:30 p.m., then end on the same square with speeches.
117 feminicides in 2024
Several unions, political parties and associations will also join this demonstration, such as Snes, FSU, CGT and Europe Écologie Les Verts (EELV).
This evening will highlight the 117 feminicides that have occurred in France since the start of the year, according to a figure given by the feminist collective #NousToutes. Violence and crimes which “particularly target trans women, migrants, sex workers or the homeless” explains the collective.
A day established in 1999 by the UN
This day was established on November 25, 1999 by the United Nations (UN). The date of November 25 was chosen in memory of the three Mirabal sisters “the Mariposas”, Dominican activists violently murdered in 1960 on the orders of Rafael Trujillo, president of the Dominican Republic from 1930 to his death in 1961.
